Semiconductor research `wanted by US Navy for advanced communications`

Semiconductor research through Atomic Layer Deposition systems has been announced, with the US Navy particularly keen to improve the quality of future communications.

Semiconductor research will be furthered and will include the growth of metals and oxides, it has been revealed.

Cambridge NanoTech made the announcement after reporting US National Laboratories has acquired three of its Fiji Series Atomic Layer Deposition systems to help it conduct more comprehensive research into semiconductors.

Semiconductor development is important to the US Navy to ensure that power management and radar systems are as advanced as possible to improve future communications.

The Air Force Research Lab, the Army Research Lab (ARL) and the Naval Research Lab have acquired the three Fijis.

ARL is going to use the system to support device projects and electronic materials with conformal deposition of high-quality metal films and semiconductors.

"The potential advances in the fields of materials science and chemistry that are made possible through the Fiji are extraordinary," stated Ganesh Sundaram, vice-president of technology at Cambridge NanoTech.

Cambridge NanoTech manufactures ALD systems and its Fiji product can carry out thermal and plasma-enhanced deposition for experimental flexibility, the company claims.ADNFCR-2855-ID-19488685-ADNFCR
